The chaos.

I recently posted an Instagram image of the chaos that was my living room floor on Boxing Day.

Almost two years ago we were blessed with a son. Since the minute he arrived my life and my home have never been the same. It’s constant chaos!

Life as a mum has been much harder than I could ever have imagined, for a whole host of reasons (which I’m sure I’ll share with you soon!). However the major reason was because every other aspect of my life is a little bit chaotic, disfunctional, disjointed… messy. From my head to my home, there are so many things in a state of being unresolved, put on the back burner until some fictional point in the future.

When it was just me, and even when I was newly married that was fine, I could function that way. Well, looking back I was barely functioning. That’s all I was doing, functioning not living and certainly not enjoying life. However, I didn’t realise the impact that all of this disorganisation was having on me until it really mattered, when I realised it was affecting my ability to be the wife and mother I knew I could be. Further down this line of realisation I also became aware that for as far back as my memory went I had always been living in this state of chaos and always striving towards that fictional point in time when things would be sorted…. I would be sorted. I realised that by always putting things off, thinking things would be better “when”, I was never really living in the now, never really happy. I felt I was always juggling, I had a perpetual to do list which created constant background noise and led to crippling anxiety. I had been functioning with this when I only had myself to worry about, but now I want better. I want better for my family. I want better for me!

So to the blog….

The name – Life Hack Mum, what’s that all about?

Well, if you google “Life Hack” you will see it defined as – any trick, shortcut, skill or novelty method that increase productivity and efficiency in all walks of life.

I do love a good life hack, however the ones I see most often would fall under the novelty category in the above definition. For example removing the leaves from strawberries using a straw, or using a coat hanger to hang your recipe from the cupboard door while you cook. While useful, I would argue that they will likely not make a real difference to the quality of your life, as least not in any meaningful wha. I’m interested in the kind of life hacks that will be genuinely life changing, that will help me to lead a happier, healthier, more fulfilling life.

I’ve decided that 2019 will be the year of change. I’ve made a list of the things that are holding me back and I’ve come up with ways I think I can tackle them. Who knows if it will work? Only one way to find out! I like the idea of blogging about my journey as I have already found writing to be a healing process in itself, but I have also been really encouraged by several other bloggers, their stories and also the support they have had from their followers.

So, if you’d like to join me on my journey, whether you think you’d like to make changes yourself or give me support or suggestions to help me along the way, welcome!
